Bridging the Gap between Education and Employment

The Fundamentals of Metal Fabrication Certificate was developed specifically for students graduating from metal fabrication programs offered through community colleges or technical schools. The coursework may vary based on the school but should include a minimum of 120 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction in precision metal fabrication.

The certificate exam assesses a student's grasp of concepts in six core topic areas: Metal Fabrication Safety; Applied Shop Math; Inspection/Quality Control & Measurement; Blueprint Reading for Metal Fabrication; Metallurgy; and Precision Sheet Metal Equipment. Students successfully passing the exam will earn a nationally-portable, industry-recognized credential that can be valuable for entry to the workforce.

Schools will have access to the exam through an annual subscription of $175 or $0 for FMA School Members. The cost per student exam is $30, payable separately by the individual.
