Understand how to manage the financial cycle for a healthy fab shop!
In a high mix, low volume fabrication shop, the financial cycle moves quickly from revenue, operations/margins, net income, cash cycle, to balance sheet, and repeat. Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) provide a picture of the company's financial health. The "right" KPI value will vary from company to company and from industry to industry. The real value comes from tracking these metrics and watching for trends.
Each year, FMA releases the Financial Ratios & Operational Benchmarking Survey which collects important KPI's from different points in the financial cycle. Participating companies contribute anonymously in the areas of liquidity, profitability, asset management, dept management, operational benchmarking, and value proposition and marketing effectiveness. The survey shows trends from year over year by providing comparisons to key demographic data. This allows companies to see how they stack up to other companies of similar demographics. Companies will gain insight on where they stand on these key KPI's.
